Polly’s Donuts

Polly is my Mom. The story of her donuts begins when she was a teenager. . She worked for two single sisters and one of her weekly duties was to make one batch of these donuts so the sisters could have them for breakfast during the week.. Needless to say, my Mom learned the art of making amazing donuts. She knew when the dough was “just right”.

Mom has blessed many people with these donuts. Growing up, it was tradition to make donuts on Halloween to give to the trick or treaters who came to our door. Even parents would come! We make donuts a few times a year. We have a small church school and as we are able, we like to make donuts with the students. We make them on our family vacation time in West Virginia.

My son Marcus has always liked to bake with his Grandma, and he has also learned when the dough feels “just right”. This year during Covid-19 we took the time to make donuts a few times. Once for my son’s birthday, once for the school, and once just to film the process and enjoy the time with Mom.

Donuts hold a lot of memories for me! They do take time and effort to make, but when you sit down with a cup of cold milk, or coffee, or tea and take a bite of a hot glazed donut, it is so, so worth it! And I love to see how my Mom loves to share with others! We always making just a bit more then we will eat so we can share with others.
